The National Writing Project (NWP), a celebration of teachers and writers, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2024 and it is located on over 175 college campuses in the U.S. The Fairfield University’s chapter led by Associate Professor Bryan Ripley Crandall, PhD is thriving with programs for teachers, students, and refugees.
The Write Time podcast originated out of the Covid-19 era when online content was needed. Each 45minute episode begins and ends with a 3 minute writing prompt and showcases an interview with a children’s or young adult author.
“Teacher after teacher told us about the need for diverse books in their classrooms, and we decided to make it our mission to help kids and teachers find the books that represent the young people we teach, with stories they can relate to.”–Bryan Ripley Crandall, PhD
I was honored to be included this fall along with Ranger Kristin Lessard of the National Park Service and my nonfiction picture book biography A VOICE FOR THE SPIRIT BEARS: How One Boy Inspired Millions to Save a Rare Animal, Illustrated by Katy Dockrill and published by Kids Can Press. Many teachers participated in a free two week event #WriteOut led by the National Writing Project and the National Park Service and received a copy of my book. I was thrilled to share this story with them!
One of the things I talked about on The Write Time podcast is that nature is one of the greatest storytellers. You just need to get quiet, observe, and listen to what she has to say. I hope you’ll be inspired to listen or watch the podcast in the links below. And then hop on a trail and go for a walk or hike in your favorite State or National Park!
